Minecraft for Education
Love Minecraft and also want to learn Computer Science? Computing with Minecraft will provide an entry point into coding and an overview of Minecraft. We will start with Code Builder to introduce you to Computer Science. We will code with blocks to solve puzzles in fun, engaging Minecraft worlds.
Design & Engineering 1
Design and Engineering is a hands-on class where you’ll explore how to create and build solutions to real-world challenges, just like engineers and inventors do. You will work with tools like robots, 3D printers, cardboard saws, cardboard, ipads, and design models while learning how to think creatively and solve problems. This class is all about projects and working through the engineering design process. You’ll design, build, and test your ideas while learning to work in a team, manage your time, and bring your plans to life. The skills you’ll practice connected to real science, math, and engineering, and explore exciting careers in STEM. Competencies in this course are aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards, the Standards for Mathematical Practice, and Discipline Literacy Standards.
Advanced Design & Engineering
Advanced Design and Engineering is a hands-on class for students who have already taken Intro to Design and Engineering. In this course, you’ll use your creativity and problem-solving skills to take on real-world challenges. You’ll work with your classmates to explore exciting topics like robotics, coding, invention, and construction, all while creating unique solutions to complex problems. As the class progresses, you’ll learn how to use new tools and technology to bring your ideas to life and build on what you already know. During the second semester, you’ll take on an amazing project: building and driving an all-electric, street-legal Switch vehicle! This course will help you develop essential skills like teamwork, critical thinking, and creativity. It’s all about learning by doing, discovering, and creating—preparing you to solve big challenges and make a difference in the world.
Crime Science Investigation (CSI)
Forensic science courses typically cover topics involving the analysis of crime scene evidence such as fingerprints, DNA, hair and fibers, arson, and other trace evidence. Forensic Science courses present students with the opportunity to explore how scientific principles are used in analyzing physical evidence found at crime scenes. This course also introduces students to a wide array of career choices in forensic science.
Computer Science
In Computer Science, students will explore the exciting world of technology through creativity! This class is designed to inspire students to think critically, solve problems, and create digital projects that are not only fun but also educational. Students will engage with computer science as a tool for communication, problem-solving, and artistic expression. The goal is to introduce students to a variety of tech tools and applications, helping them discover new ways to use technology in their everyday lives. Throughout the course, students will develop skills in programming, digital media design, and computer basics. They’ll work on creating projects like personal logos, digital advertisements, and even yearbook covers using tools like Canva, CodeCombat, and Google Drive.
In addition, they’ll get hands-on experience with fun and interactive tech tools like Makey Makey and Micro Bits! This course is perfect for students who are curious about technology and want to unleash their creativity. By the end, students will have learned new technical skills and created exciting digital projects that reflect their own ideas and imagination!
Science of Natural Disasters
Science of Natural Disasters is an opportunity for students interested in Earth Science to take a more in-depth and hands on journey through some of Earth's most extreme processes. Students will learn about what makes a natural hazard a disaster as well as some ways we try to predict and mitigate these events. Using hands on demos, experiments, and simulations students will discover more about volcanoes, earthquakes, extreme weather and more.
